FAQs

"Waiting..." charcoal/pastel portrait drawing on toned paper by Heidi Rounds. Fine art print. A young girl waiting with her head resting on her hand.

What makes your portrait drawings different?

While most charcoal portrait artists create drawings with black on white paper, I use toned paper with black and white charcoal and/or pastel which produces a dynamic drawing with more contrast and depth. All of my art is laid out and created by hand, using traditional techniques. Please see my gallery for examples of my work.

How do I order a commission drawing?

  • Start by completing the form for a quote request and uploading a reference image on my Ordering & Pricing page.
  • I will personally review your image and respond with a quote based on your request.
  • Once a price has been agreed upon, an invoice will be emailed and a 50% deposit is required to begin.
  • When the drawing is complete, I will send you an image of your drawing for approval and the final payment will be due.
  • Once the final payment is received, your drawing will be matted, packed and shipped within 1-2 business days. All artwork will be shipped FedEx Standard delivery and insured for the purchase price.

How much does it cost to commission a portrait drawing?

The cost of a drawing varies depending on a number of factors. Please see my Ordering & Pricing page for standard portrait sizes and prices. Once a quote request is received, I will confirm pricing based on a review of the image.

What is your turnaround time?

My standard turnaround time is 2-4 weeks, depending on the size of the drawing and number of subjects. I always give an estimated completion time with each quote. During the holiday season, I encourage clients to submit orders as early as possible as this is my busiest time of year.

Can I order a rush commission with a faster turnaround time?

With the holidays being the exception, I am generally able to complete work faster if my schedule allows. A rush fee may be required.

Do you create art besides portrait drawings?

Yes, I am able to draw any subject from a client supplied image.

  • Pet portrait drawings
  • Family/couple portrait drawings
  • Child/grandchild portrait drawings
  • Graduation portrait drawings
  • Memorial/bereavement portrait drawings
  • Wedding/anniversary portrait drawings
  • Full figure drawings
  • Home/architecture drawings
  • Landscape/nature/wildlife drawings
  • Vehicle/motorcycle drawings
  • Tattoo designs
  • Custom drawings/illustrations

How is your artwork shipped?

My drawings are matted and will be packed flat with a backing for protection during transit. Drawings are insured for the purchase price. Additional shipping charges may apply if expedited shipping is requested.

Can you ship directly to a gift recipient?

Yes, just provide the recipient’s address and I will ship the drawing directly to them.

What methods of payment do you accept?

My invoices are processed through PayPal. Payment methods include all major credit cards, Apple Pay and Venmo. You don’t need a PayPal account to pay the invoice.

How long have you been in business?

I have been drawing my entire adult life and started my commission drawing business in 2016.

What size frame will I need for my drawing?

With affordability in mind, my drawings are matted to fit a standard frame size. A custom drawing size may require a non-standard matboard and frame size. Due to the risk of damage during shipping, framing is not included.

Where are you located?

I am located in Denver, CO, but I offer free shipping nationwide on all custom drawing orders.

Do you have gift certificates?

Yes. Gift certificates are a great idea if you don’t have time to commission a portrait, but you still want to give a portrait as a gift.

Can you combine subjects from different photos?

Yes. I can combine multiple images into one drawing. I use Photoshop to create a cohesive composition that will be sent for approval prior to starting the drawing.

Will my drawing fade over time?

My drawings are created with acid-free archival quality materials, meaning they are made to last. The materials are chosen for longevity, so your drawing can be displayed and enjoyed for generations.

Do you sell prints of your artwork?

Yes. Please visit my Print Store.
